What is one thing you’d like to try at home from the curriculum?

One way I am reducing waste in my home is by using all the “scraps”, or at least trying to. We do not like wasting food and this is a great way to use everything as much as possible.

One thing that I am going to try is someone suggested putting produce in the doors instead of crisper drawers so you can use the produce first. This is a great way to make sure nothing “goes bad” and that you eat the more nutritious foods first!

One way I currently reduce waste in my home is by finding secondary sources of use for foods, when fruits begin to go bad, I make a smoothie or mask for my hair or face using the ingredients. Also, I make my own compost at home for my herb garden.

One thing I would like to try at home from the curriculum is to start fermenting and pickling foods, I’ve always enjoyed pickled foods and vegetables often go bad before I can use them so I will like to incorporate it in my household.
- I plan the meal I will make for the week, and buy only those ingredients I need for it.
- I want to start using part of the veggies I don’t usually eat to either try and grow veggies or use them in other meal plans.
- My mother and I have been composting for a bout ten years! She is big into gardening so she likes to keep her soil enriched and we put everything into one of those large composters that you can rotate. We also make dilly beans with the seemingly thousands of beans she harvests per year.
- Sauerkraut is my favorite food! So, I would love to start making that at home along with pickled red onions, and incorporating chia seeds into canned jams we make.
- Proper storing practices, dividing meals and storing them properly to cut down on waste and have options throughout the week.

- One way I try to reduce food waste in my home is by only buying a few things of produce at a time, especially fruits, and not buying any more until those ones at eaten up first.

I am going to look at food label dates more carefully and reorganize my refrigerator to help my food last longer.
- I reduce food waste in our home by composting, using food scraps for other recipes, and by not peeling everything.
- One thing I would like to try at home is fermenting.
-I often freeze scraps and use them for broth or soups. I also will blend herbs into sauces or oils or pickle vegetables.

- A method of food waste that I am currently trying to explore at home is by labeling leftover and cooked items with the date that they were opened/order/eaten. That way, when I look into the fridge I know what the older items simply by looking at the dates I have written on the side.

One way that I reduce food waste in my home is by chopping and freezing produce for future use.
One thing that I will try at home is meal planning before grocery shopping. This will help in reducing food waste and reducing time spent in the supermarket.
- One way I currently reduce food waste in my home is by trying to grow some of our food staples (such as leafy greens) that we will always use as well as finding ways to repurpose some of the food parts we cut off, like the butts of tomatoes.
- I would like to try composting more to help out with the food scraps and coffee grounds we have no other use for.
