Food Medication Interactions

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone has come across a handout describing food medication interactions for food pantry clients? I recently learned a TEFAP shipment would be containing grapefruit, and this sparked a conversation about if education is generally provided in food pantries about this topic. I may look into creating some resources, but did not want to re-create the wheel if I didn’t need to!

I haven’t! But this would be a great resource for any of our partners especially the clinics and urgent care facilities!

This would be a great idea for “Food is Medicine” campaign! It would be another layer of support from health care providers & we can inform our clients as they shop.

Hi @mary.hammar ! We don’t have a resource exactly like that, but we do have a Dietary Food Preferences sheet from the Nutrition Pantry Program (NPP) Toolkit. It’s designed for pantries serving populations with dietary needs related to diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, vegetarian or vegan eating, and anti-inflammatory diets.

I hope that’s helpful! If you do end up creating your own resource, please share it. I’m sure others here would benefit from something like that, too!

That is a great idea to loop in partners from health care sites! It definitely gives me some food for thought.
